Rachel Recommends…

This week’s recommendations are brought to you by Aztec ruins and mini road trips:

This church is evidently on the site of where Jesus came down and healed the town's cows. There are some excellent paintings inside depicting the miracle. #mexicancatholics

Rachel recommends tourism in Mexico.

Here are some of the wonderful things I found around the world this week.

Around the Web:

But that’s MY dream. “What if she is better at it than I am? What if she isn’t better but she knows more people with more connections than I do? What if I am actually better at this dream but she gets it and then I don’t because sometimes life isn’t fair? BACK OFF MY DREAM! I HAD IT FIRST!” Love the honesty and humor here.

If you feel far away from God, guess who moved? “If you feel far away from God, maybe it’s possible that no one moved. Not God, of course. But maybe not you either. Maybe this is just a normal part of the long work of faith. Maybe the silence of God is not a punishment, but an invitation to a new kind of trust. In a world that is so loud and constant, where we are talking on social media even when we’re not using our voices, always saying something, always conversing and communicating…we’ve forgotten about the layers of Silence. The richness of it. The power of it. We’ve forgotten that God has a habit of going quiet with his people.” Excellent post on a Christian-ism that might just not be accurate. Definitely worth your time.

To Those that Send Me… This is everything I would like to say to everyone who has loved me to Mexico and back. Thank you for sending me, thank you for preparing to welcome me back. Your generosity has not gone unnoticed.

Receiving Well: Eleven Tips for Helping Expats Come Home. Especially tips #1 and #11, but this encapsulates a lot of my fears of returning and awkward conversations when I get back. Pretty much all the expats I know here in Mexico are preparing to go back to the US, so if you love one of them (or are one of them) or love me, you should read this :)

My most popular post this week was A White Wine Communion (and other unorthodoxies), which I got to have a really wonderful discussion about with some of you on the comments section of my facebook page. Thanks for engaging! Don’t forget to check out our wonderful featured sellers in the sidebar as June comes to a close!

What about you? What’s on your computer/bookshelf/iPod this week?
